John J. Comandini passed away today November 30, 2021 surrounded by his family at Hampton Ridge Health Care in Toms River. He was 89 years old.
John was born on October 25, 1932 in Raritan, NJ to Anna and Dominick Comandini. He was baptized at St. Ann Church in Raritan and lived his entire youth in this boro. John attended and graduated from Somerville High School in 1950. Immediately thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in which he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. John is a veteran of the Korean War.
In 1955, he married the love of his life, Theresa (Terry) Marino of Plainfield at St. Bernard Church, also in Plainfield. From their love, three boys were born: Glenn John, Eric James and Thomas Joseph. He and Terry raised their sons for five years in Dunellen, and in Branchburg where they lived for 13 years. In 1978, the family moved to the Whitehouse Station section of Readington Township. John and his family were communicants at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish for 30 years. In 2007, John and Terry retired to Charlotte, North Carolina where they enjoyed the company of good friends, a mild climate and lots of good golfing weather for 10 years. In 2017, at the behest of their sons, they returned to New Jersey and settled in Toms River.
John worked as a service manager for Lincoln-Mercury for 40 years, overseeing the jobs assigned to the mechanics and was awarded with many Customer Satisfaction citations by Ford Motor Company. When not working or with his family, he loved to play golf. It was his sport and he excelled at it. At one point, he held a scratch handicap. He and Terry were members of Copper Hill Country Club in Flemington for 30 years, and later, when they retired to Charlotte, NC, were members of Raintree Golf Course. If John was not playing golf, he was watching the pros on television. In addition to golf, John was an avid fan of the New York Giants and the New York Yankees.
