Obituary of Lawrence R Cherney

Lawrence R. Cherney, 86, of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away on September 29th, 2021. Lawrence was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania to the late Clarence Cherney and Estelle Zaikowski. After high school graduation, Larry enlisted in the United States Army, where he served from 1954-1956 in Germany. Larry then worked for AT&T as a federal tax manager for thirty seven years until his retirement in 1990. He also held the role of past President of Internal Auditors and Vice President of AT&T Telephone Pioneers of America. Larry was a proud graduate of Farleigh Dickinson University, in Rutherford, NJ. Larry had a passion for gardening and earned the certificate of Master Gardener from Rutgers University. LC as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, enjoyed fishing, watching the Yankees and the Giants, a good glass of wine at his favorite restaurant, shopping for luxury cars and spending time with his family. Larry’s love for his family knew no bounds and he cherished annual trips to Marco Island, Florida with them as well as countless celebrations and gatherings. Lawrence is predeceased by his sisters, Connie and Barbara. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elaine. He is also survived by his three children, daughter Lorraine and her husband David. His son, Larry and his wife Cheryl and his daughter Karen and her husband Ken. He was the proud grandfather to Jessica, David, Stephanie, Tyler, Brianna and Sarah and great grandfather to Declan and Finn. Visitation will be held Monday October 4th from 4pm-7pm at Gallaway and Crane, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 5th at 11am at Saint James Church, South Finley Avenue Basking Ridge NJ 07920. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
