Obituary of Michael J Kalmus

Michael Kalmus, beloved husband, father, papa, uncle and friend passed away at home surrounded by his family during the early morning hours of Monday, August 30th, 2021. Michael was born on April 9th, 1940 in the Bronx, NY to Charles & Anna Kalmus, later moving to Lake Hiawatha, NJ in 1956. Michael had a long and distinguished career in sales and advertising spanning over 50 years. In addition, Michael was the owner of Kalmus Jewelers in Lake Hiawatha for more than 40 years. He had a passion for painting, drawing and gardening, which he shared with his family and friends. Michael is predeceased by his parents, Charles & Anna, his brothers, Howie & Stephen as well as his daughter Leslie. Michael is survived by his wife of 31 years, Barbara Kalmus, his sister, Allyne Schwartz of New York, NY, his son Robert & wife, Nancy of Port Washington NY, daughter Michelle Post & husband, Ken Post of Kenvil, NJ, son David Kalmus of Parsippany, NJ, his step son, Jay Gilston & wife Jill Gilston of Morganville, NJ his step daughter, Alyssa Gilston-Nussman & husband, Doug Nussman of Bridgewater, NJ and his six grandchildren, Michael, Kristen, Lily, Ava, Ella & Brody, and of course his treasured dog, Sammy. Service will be private for family only at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge. Shiva will be held on Tuesday August 31st 1:00 -4:00 and 5:00 -7:00 at the home of Alyssa and Doug Nussman, 4 Freeman Lane, Bridgewater NJ.
