Obituary of Grace Lenkey

Grace Gizella Lenkey, of Basking Ridge, NJ, passed away on August 22, 2021 at the age of 93. Grace was born in Sopron, Hungary on June 29, 1928 to Geza and Gizella Farkas. She worked as a secretary for the County office in Sopron, Hungary, which was during the time she met her husband, who was a Lieutenant in the Hungarian Army. In the winter months of 1956, during the Hungarian Revolution, Grace fled from Hungary with her husband and 9-month-old son. They entered the United States through Camp Kilmer, an immigrant refugee camp, in New Jersey. She raised her four children in Millburn, New Jersey, while working as a seamstress and in later years as a jewelry finisher for Wefferling Berry & Co. Grace enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, going to the senior center with her friends, participating in exercise classes, knitting for the church, reading, completing artistic projects, and listening to opera, Hungarian, and classical music. Grace is preceded in death by her sister Judy Antal, son Peter Lenkey and loving husband, Attila Lenkey of 45 years. They were married in Sopron, Hungary on December 25, 1954. Grace is lovingly remembered by her family including her son Dr. Attila Lenkey, daughter-in-law Caroline Lenkey, son Laszlo Lenkey, daughter-in-law Leslie Lenkey, daughter Judy Engstrom and fiancé Harry Krystalla; grandchildren Nicole Engstrom, grandson-in-law James Sumka, Kyle Lenkey, Devin Lenkey, Leah Engstrom, Kelly Lenkey, and Ryan Lenkey. Memorial service will be held at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 between 4:00-7:00 pm. There will be a private family interment the following day.
