Obituary of Mary Jane Neumann

Mary Jane Quayle Neumann, 74, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away at home on August 17th surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held at Gallaway and Crane, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ on Monday, August 23, 2021 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Church, 184 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ on Tuesday, August 24 at 11 am. Cremation services will be private. Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 52 years George. She is also survived by her four children, Laura (David) Hess and Peter (Heather) Neumann, both of Basking Ridge, William (Laura) Neumann of Seattle, and Alice (Biff) Ourso of Charlotte, her 10 grandchildren, Lucy, Harry, Lizzy and Teddy Hess, Maggie and Max Neumann, William and Abigail Neumann and Brennan and Tinsley Ourso as well as a large extended family. She was pre-deceased by her two sisters, Catherine Quayle Piccirillo and Nora Quayle Bird. Mary Jane was born in Manhattan to Nora and William Quayle on March 29, 1947. She graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart at 92nd Street and furthered her education at Manhattanville College, graduating with a degree in Economics in 1968. After college, she worked on Wall Street before raising her family. She later embarked on her beloved, longtime career as a pre-school teacher in town once her children were older. In her free time, she was an avid tennis player, enjoyed the theater, and was a gracious hostess who loved welcoming people into her home. She was passionate about volunteering her time and talents with many ministries at St. James. She was a lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to everyone who offered support, love, and care, with particular gratitude for the devotion shown by her beloved caregivers Shirley, Milena, and Elizabeth.
