Funeral service will be held at The Church of Saint James, 184 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ on Wednesday, 8/18/2021 at 11:00 AM ET with Father Krystian Burdzy. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 145 Mt Airy Rd, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Maria G. Aznar Lujan was born in the city of Merida in Yucatán, Mexico to Juan Gabriel Aznar Ruiz and Maria del Socorro Aznar Lujan, on December 12, 1937. She earned her High School Degree at the Instituto Pedagógico Anglo Español in Mexico City. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Brooklyn College in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish while working as a Paraprofessional in the NYC Public School System and raising her 2 sons. She eventually earned a Teaching Degree and a Masters in Psychology while continuing to teach in the New York City Public School System. Maria devoted her life to her strong faith and her family. She believed in the value of academic pursuits and had an appreciation for classical music, literature and the fine arts. After retiring, she continually pursued ways to help others and to share her inner peace. She always sought to find the best in others and to maintain a positive life perspective. Maria is survived by her son, Tony and his wife Gina and her son, Jorge and wife Awilda; 2 half sisters Gloria and Miriam; 7 grandchildren, Megan, Emily, Luis, Christopher, Gabe, Cristina and Alicia; 3 nieces, Miriam, Laura and Fabiola; 5 nephews, Esteban, Roberto, Fernando, Aldo and Bruno. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Luis; her parents, Juan Gabriel & Maria del Socorro; her sisters Beatriz and Elsy and her brother Gabriel. For those who knew Maria, she was truly one of a kind. A devoted mother who always put her children first and did everything in her power to instill good values and provide the building blocks to be the best we can be. She had been unwell for some time and she is now in a better place. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Church of St James, 184 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
