Obituary of Mary D Burkholder

Mary Burkholder, 99, died Thursday night at her daughter Kathy’s home in Warren; Kathy was with her. A 31 year resident of Somerset Hills Village in Bernardsville she was born in Staten Island, New York and grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She was married for almost 67 years to Oliver Craig Burkholder who died in 2013. She was a wonderful wife and mother and always responded positively to the demands of Craig’s military career including transfers to six states and throughout England. Mary and Craig had three children, Ann who died in 2003, Nick and Kathy. She is also survived by son-in-law David, grandchildren Mary, John, Paul, Megan, Ryan, Kevin and Kaitlin, grandsons-in-law Chris and Evan, granddaughters-in-law Gretchen and Kri, and five great grandchildren, Heidi, Maggie, Ollie, Jehu, and Cameron. She was particularly fond of and bolstered by her neighbors and like her husband she had many friends of all ages. All are sad for her passing but blessed to have known her. Visitation will be at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge on Tuesday, June 29 from 9-11 and a service will be held at the St. James Chapel on Finley Ave., at 11:30 a.m. Interment will then be at Somerset Hills Memorial Park 95 Mt.
