Obituary of Frederick Louis Steinkopf

Frederick Louis Steinkopf, 64, of Hardyston and Bernardsville, NJ, passed away at home on June 10, 2021 in Hardyston, NJ. Funeral service will be held at Gallaway & Crane, Basking Ridge, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920, Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge, NJ. Visitation will be held at Gallaway & Crane, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920, on Monday, June 14th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, with services provided by NJ EMS Council and Bernardsville Fire Company. Fred was born in Morristown, NJ to Loretta and Fred Steinkopf on September 2, 1956. He graduated from Bernards High, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He worked as a supervisor of Health Environmental and Safety for Allied Signal (Metglas Division) and software engineer for North Jersey Media Group, later Gannett. He was active in local politics including having served on the Board of Adjustment and Planning Board in the Borough of Bernardsville. He most recently served as secretary for the HOA of Country Club Ridge. He was a member of MENSA. Fred served 45 years in the Bernardsville Fire Company holding numerous positions including trustee, secretary, and treasury. Fred was past president (2002-2005) of the New Jersey State First Aid Council (now NJ EMS Council) and also served as Northern Area Vice President. Fred is survived by his wife, Susan (Caputo) Steinkopf, of Hardyston, NJ, his mother, Loretta (Sibilia) Steinkopf, his brothers Robert (Sandla), William, and Randy (Kelli), and sister, Patricia Petrone. Brother-in-law, Peter Caputo, nieces and nephews Robert (Kimberly) Steinkopf, Jeffery Petrone, Kayla Steinkopf, Erica Petrone, and Lauren Steinkopf. He is preceded in death by his father, the late Chief of Police (BPD) Frederick C. Steinkopf. Memorial donations may be made to NJ EMS Council, Bernardsville Fire Company, or Eleventh Hour Rescue.
