Ray’s Family and Friends—-these tributes and the recounting of his life bring back many memories. For me and my colleagues who worked at Labor for Secretary Donovan and my partners at Pierson ,Ball and Dowd, Ray was a great friend and thoughtful client. Together we worked through “trumped up (amazing language) charges” in US Senate confirmation hearings, Special Prosecutor inquiry and criminal trial in the Bronx—just down the street from Yankee Stadium. Ray beat down all of these politically motivated charges. Through it all, Ray was professional, thoughtful and nice ( even providing morning donuts and candy for the Bronx jury).
Lost in the history is the way in which the Reagan Administration and Labor Dept under Ray changed America. Union’s no longer dominate the workforce adding more rules for our over-regulated society. The balance was re-established under Ray Donovan! Tim Ryan

I had the honor of serving as Ray’s press secretary at the Labor Department. He was a warm and kind individual and a fierce steward of the Reagan Revolution. When I became a first time father, Ray mentored me on how to be a good parent. The world was a better place because of men like Ray Donovan. Rest In Peace Mr. Secretary. Michael Volpe

My deepest sympathy for the family and friends of Mr Donovan. I had the pleasure of knowing Ray for over a period of 8 years when I worked at FECC during my summers off in high school and college. He would often come through the Pro Shop and have meaningful conversations with me. He asked me to greet Nancy and Ronald Reagan at the front door of the mansion when they arrived for a fundraiser. I was 18 at the time, so you can only imagine what a thrill that was for me! Mr Donovan was a genuinely warm, kind-hearted man. I admired the attention and love he gave to his son Ken when they would golf together. For many of us who worked in the Pro Shop, he was a respite from the corporate elite we often catered to. Although many of the names and faces from Fiddler’s Elbow have been erased from my memory, Ray Donovan will always remain. He was a wonderful role-model and mentor. May he Rest In Peace.

It was with great sadness that I read about the passing of Ray Donovan, a great guy who served his community and country throughout his life, and was a part of the Reagan Revolution that in its day restored America.
It was an honour and privilege to serve both President Reagan and Secretary Donovan in the U.S. Labor Dept. My years in the Reagan campaign, then the Employment and Training Administration were the most meaningful time of my life.
For me, what stood out most about the Secretary was how approachable and friendly he was, with everyone. That was not always a common trait inside the Beltway.
Condolences to the Donovan family and sentiments for colleagues and friends who shared in the Reagan Era. Here was a good man and we remember him that way.

My deepest condolences to the Donovan family. As a member of Mr. Donovan's Security Detail he always treated the agents with respect and was considerate of our mission. He would express his concern about us spending so much time away from our families.
On a trip to Disney World, Mr. Donovan went into a Disney World gift shop and purchased a joke arrow that he placed on his head simulating he had been shot trough the temple area. When he saw the Security Agents he exclaimed, "Where were you when I needed you?" I still have that photo on my wall.I always enjoyed his Irish humor.
It was my honor to have worked for Mr. Donovan during his service at the Department of Labor.
Rest in peace Mr. Secretary

I was fortunate to have known Ray for many years. Our conversations always started with a smile and ended in laughter. His story telling and replenishment of my Irish joke inventory was a special "blessing"! Over time, I learned of his love for his family and despite his humility, witnessed his caring for others. His genuine grief for the victims of the 9/11 terror attack and his creation of the Tower of Remembrance at the Shrine of St. Joseph to honor them and give comfort to the survivors will always be remembered.
Our family prays that you Cathy, and your family will be comforted in your grief by knowing how others remember and admire Ray.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Secretary.

He served his country well . Thank you, Secretary Donovan! He once got off a plane with my boss, Rep. Jim Courter on a Friday night at EWR and Jim said to me: “We’re taking the Secretary to Forsgate!” and so the Secretary of Labor hopped in the back seat of my 1979 Mercury Zephyr and down the NJT we went! He and my boss were both speaking at the same dinner..
Can you imagine a cabinet member being unaccompanied by ANYONE in this day and age?
Sincerely, BILL HEALEY

I am deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Mr. Donovan. I am grateful to have known the man and spent time with him to hear those many stories. He walked the grounds of Fiddlers Elbow with pride always on hand to share a story or a smile with a member or guest.
Although his presence will be missed by all of the individuals who had the fortune to spend time with this great man, somehow I know he will be watching over his club and family forever.
