My early impression of Al when I joined Lamb’s Artillery was that he was intimidating. As I got to know him I changed that to demanding—- for good reason. It’s a good thing to be meticulous in the name of safety and authenticity when you mix black powder and the public. And after the crowds went home, I saw his zest for life, his sharp sense of humor, his skill as a storyteller and still as a tailor. He didn’t just have authority because he played the role—- he earned respect, and when he respected you, you felt proud. Too simple to say he will be missed.

Al was more then a friend to me and my family. I never had siblings but if I had, Al would have been my older brother for sure. The time I spent getting to know him these past many years in the hobby and off from the hobby the memories I will treasure for the rest of my life. To the Florio family I called part of my own, you have my sincere condolences from myself and my family here in New Jersey. We will meet again Al…

Al Florio commanded and we followed. He was a commander but he was a friend to all who got to know him on and off the battlefields of New Jersey and beyond. Looking back at these photos of events and times passed, the flood of memories overwhelming as Al was more a friend but a true brother in arms. May these photos help share the same pride and love in the hobby as Al shared with us all. We will meet again…

Al strove to live in his own life the qualities he so admired in the heroes he studied: courage, constancy, devotion, dignity and respect. That is why so many of his contemporaries trusted him as leader and guide. He is now one with the history to which he invested so much, and will not be forgotten. Rest in Peace.

I had the pleasure of being a member of Lamb's Artillery from 1974 until 1983, along with my husband Bob, who passed away in 2009, and my stepchildren, children and niece. I have many fond memories of Al and all of the members. Good times! My condolences to Al's family and friends.

I knew Al when we were in high school in the late 1960s. I knew him because at the time his girlfriend was Donna D'Elia, my friend who lived down the street from me. I remember Al as a gentle guy with a great laugh. He would stop in the Photo Zone in Parsippany every now and then to see Ron Feinsod. I was there one day and Ron asked Al to guess who I was, as we hadn't seen each other in years. He stared at me for a while and then said, "You're Joyce's sister!". Funny how much we all remember about our high school pals.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I remember Al from my high school years in Basking Ridge / Bernardsville. He was always such a nice person, fun to hang with. Many years later he dropped in at my store in Parsippany. I remembered his voice, but it took me a little while to connect the voice to the face after a few decades!
