Obituary of William Matthew

William Matthew passed away peacefully on March 25th, 2021 at Sunrise Assisted Living, in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. He was born and raised in New York City and then lived in Union, New Jersey where he lived with his family for 57 years. He worked as a tool designer for Durex and then Singer Engineering until he retired at age 80. One of his greatest accomplishments was design tooling for Pratt Whitney Engines in the late 1950s. His greatest joy was spending time with family during the holidays, playing poker, chess, and vacationing at LBI. He loved to laugh and joke around with everyone. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and rifling. His fondest childhood memories were spent at a family friend's farm in Glen Gardner. He was the son of Anna and John Matthew. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Stella, of 72 years on March 15, 2015. He leaves behind his daughter, Christine Reischmann, grandchildren, Scott Reischmann (Michelle), Michelle Klass (Ron), and six great grandchildren, Ruth, Naomi, Rachel, Aidan, Noah and Jonah. Visitation will be help on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 0792 from 10:00 am 11:30am. Funeral Mass will follow at 12 noon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 111 Claremont Road, Bernardsville, NJ 07924. Entombment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
