Obituary of Robert Murphy

Robert Joseph Murphy of Basking Ridge, NJ, loving husband, father and friend to many passed away peacefully at his home with family beside him on January 27th, 2021 at the age of 92. Bob (“Pops, or Murph”) a former resident of Oldwick, N.J., Naples, FL and Groton Long Point, CT was an avid golfer both at Somerset Hills Country Club and Audubon Country Club. Bob loved to spend time with family, friends,attending the sports’ games of his grandchildren doting over his two young great grandchildren and rooting on his beloved NY Giants. Bob was predeceased by his wife Margaret “Margie “McDonnell Murphy after 62years of marriage. He is survived by his six children,Robert J. Murphy Jr. of Naples, FL, Margaret Mary (David) Ryder of Alexandria VA, Sheila (Michael-deceased) Azarian of Summit, NJ, James McDonnell(Margaret) Murphy of Cleveland, OH, Charlotte (Joseph) Cox of Johns Creek, GA, and Lisa (Ryan) Dooley of Bernardsville, NJ. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, Maureen Graham (Tommy), Mac(Abby), Connor, Kevin (Emily), and Daniel Murphy; Nick and Caroline Ryder; Charlotte and Michael Azarian; Molly, Megan Puterbaugh (Tyler), Katie, and Jimmy Cox, Patrick and Colleen Dooley and great grandchildren Maggie Graham and Charlie Murphy. Bob was one of four children of the late John and Isabel Murphy of East Rutherford NJ. He graduated Georgetown University, served in the Army, and quickly joined the Ford Motor Co. opening dealerships in NJ and later was a partner in Eco Leasing Corp, and the development of Audubon Country Club. In addition to his parents, he is pre-deceased by his brothers John and Frank and sister Isabel McBride. A private family mass of Christian burial will take place at Saint James Church in Basking Ridge, NJ on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at10am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to the Academy of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ.
