Lewis Oscar Van Horn (6/12/1938 - 1/20/2021)
On January 20, 2021, at 3 AM EST, Lewis Oscar Van Horn passed away in Hackensack Meridian Health Ocean Medical Center at the age of 82. He is predeceased by his parents, Henry Lindsey Van Horn and Antoinette Marion Wyckoff; as well as his wife, Renate Van Horn (née Simon.) He is survived by his brother, Fredrick William Van Horn; three children, Susan Ann Reyes, Philipp Henry Van Horn, and Marianne Louise Riggleman; as well as eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Born in Morristown, Lewis graduated from Bernards Village High School in 1957, and would go on to work for AT&T/Lucent Technologies, IFS Air Freight, Murphy Bus Services, and Six Flags Great Adventure throughout his professional career. On top of his corporate life, Mr. Van Horn also joined the Ramtown Fire Company in 1968, where he served as Fire Chief from 1989 to 1991, and eventually became a lifetime member,
Perhaps his proudest achievement was that of his family, which started when he married Renate Simon on June 27th, 1959. For a time, Lewis and Renate made Jacksonville, Florida their home; but eventually the Van Horn family would move back into Howell, New Jersey, the town where they would reside in for several decades. Through generations of family members, the Van Horns would instill values of service, respect, and community, helping shape their family into the people they are today.
Lewis Van Horn was a good man, a hard worker, and a family member who will always be remembered fondly. He will be laid to rest in the Van Horn family plot at Somerset Hills Memorial Park and Mausoleum, on Friday morning, January 22nd, at 11 AM.
