Obituary of Claire M DiDomenico
On January 16, 2021, Claire Marie DiDomenico (née: Ernst), loving wife of Vincent “Jimmy” DiDomenico, Sr., devoted mother, adoring grandmother and selfless friend, passed into eternal life.
Born on March 12, 1937 in Bayonne, NJ, Claire was the youngest daughter of Catherine and Edmund Ernst, and daughter-in-law to Louise and G. Thomas DiDomenico; the former mayor of Bayonne. In her youth, Claire attended St. Andrew’s School and Holy Family Academy and later graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Peter’s University.
From an early age, Claire had an appetite for adventure and the arts, and sought to share this passion with all those around her. From globe-trotting adventures to the performing arts, she truly enjoyed turning every moment into a memorable experience for everyone involved.
After a life-threatening battle with breast cancer, Claire dedicated herself to supporting others diagnosed with the disease. She donated to ongoing cancer research efforts and dedicated her time to contact, console, and support the women and families facing the battle she knew all too well. Throughout her life, she also donated her time to serve on many boards for other causes close to her heart and her community, including Bayonne Hospital Foundation, St. Henry’s School, Holy Family Academy, Marist High School, St. Peter’s Prep, Villanova University, and the Save Our Shores (SOS) Campaign.
Above all, Claire spent her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt; always selflessly putting her family and others above herself, with a smile on her face. Her final days echoed the life she lived: smiling, singing, and giving her all for her family and friends, so they could say their goodbyes and send her peacefully into the eternal life. The love and devotion of her caretaker, protector and friend, Caroline Forbes, kept Claire comfortable, happy, healthy, and beautiful to the end.
Surviving her are her four children and their spouses -- Thomas DiDomenico & Stephen Morgan, Ellen Marie & Dr. George Charles Peck,Jr., Catherine & Joseph Patrick Lee, Sr., and Vincent Bernard DiDomenico, Jr. & Nicole DiDomenico (née: Milano) -- and her nine grandchildren –Alexandra Lee, Evan Thomas Lee, & Joseph Patrick Lee, Jr.; Morgan Elizabeth Peck, George Charles Peck III, & Claire Marie Peck; and Martine Elizabeth DiDomenico, Jacqueline Claire DiDomenico, & Vincent Bernard DiDomenico III.
A devout Roman Catholic, Claire joins her beloved husband Jimmy, and her loving parents, ready to host us all whenever we meet again.
A Funeral Mass will be held in Claire’s honor at the Church at St. Mary’s Abbey (Delbarton School Campus) located at 230 Mendham Road, Morristown, NJ on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at 10:00 A.M.
