Obituary of Lorraine E Salmon

Lorraine Emily Salmon, 96, of Bernardsville passed away peacefully at her home on January 12, 2021. She was born in Newark, NJ, July 29, 1924 to parents George and Elsie Fecher. She graduated from Columbia High School, Maplewood, and after secretarial school, worked for the Essex County Prosecutor in Newark. After her marriage to Francis Howard Salmon of Bernardsville on June 18, 1949, she continued to work as a secretary at various law offices and then as secretary for the Presbyterian Church of Bernardsville. She also did bookkeeping for the family business, Salmon’s 5 & 10 Stores in Bernardsville, Denville and Boonton. A great source of pride for her was being nominated to Phi Beta Kappa honor society for courses she took at Raritan Valley Community College in her later years. Lorraine was active in the community, serving as president of the local Junior Women’s Club, secretary of the Somerset Hills AARP, and a Girl Scout leader. She was a devoted member of the Garretson Road Church of Christ in Bridgewater. She loved bowling and belonged to a league for many years. She was accomplished at sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint and crossword and jigsaw puzzles. One of her great loves was for the Jersey shore where she spent summers at her house on the bay in Normandy Beach, built by her father in 1940. Many of her fondest memories were of the beautiful sunsets and swimming in the ocean with her family. Lorraine is predeceased by her husband F. Howard Salmon, and her brother, George Fecher of Cincinnatti. She is survived by her daughter Nancy Fenimore and husband Dario of Morris Plains, son Barry Salmon of Long Valley, daughter Sharon Rickman and her husband Rick of Ringoes, son David Salmon and his wife Barbara of Bound Brook, and daughter Leah Salmon who lived with her; her beloved grandchildren, Jim Fenimore and wife Daill, Dario Fenimore, Christopher Fenimore and wife Alyssa, Christina (Salmon) Scott and husband Rich, Kevin Rickman, Matt Fenimore, Kelly Rickman, Brian Salmon, Michael Salmon, Keri Rickman, Timothy Salmon; and great-grandsons Cooper Fenimore and Mason Scott. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
