It is with much sorrow that I express this untimely acknowledgement to my past business mentor and personal friend. Regrettably, I wish I could have expressed my sincere gratitude to him for showing me how to retain a professional demeanor while cultivating an endearing bond with the people and patients we had interacted with in our practice. He impressively exemplified what it meant to be a perfect gentleman, always willing to empathize and extend a helping hand. I hope in some special way he can come to know how thankful I am for him having made such a positive influence in my life and making me better at what I do. Thank you.

God bless you Dr. Hillner. I met Dr. Hillner a few times when he came in to see my manager Peter Rubolotta. I remarked right away how lovely and kind he was toward me. I will say a prayer and never forget his kind soul.

I was a student at Middlebury with dear roommate Lisa (roomie for two years!), and Mr. Hillner (Don) was ALWAYS so kind and supportive and, well, dad-like. I LOVED seeing him whenever he came for a visit or to help Lisa move in or out or for a parents' weekend.

Doc is one of the most memorable people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. His character, thoughtfulness and enthusiasm toward me has left a lasting impression how we should all be toward one another. As a typical teenager, it wasn't much fun to wear braces but Doc made every visit to his office fun for me and a time I would look forward to. I'm grateful for his expertise and commitment to his profession, which I can take advantage of every day. Doc is one of those great ones, who takes a true interest in others, he always had a smile on his face and would make you feel like the most important person in the room, I have always looked up to him. Memories with him at SBCC and Hawk Pointe will be cherished, lots of laughs and I'm glad I had the chance to be out there with him.
God Bless,
-Darren De Angelis

Most people despise dental work. In middle school, I looked forward to my next orthodontics appointment knowing I was going to hang out with one of the coolest, nicest guys in the world. I'd be waiting there in the chair and you could feel this positive energy fill the room when Doc Hillner entered. I feel bad for appointments after me, because Doc and I would get in these college football "discussions" and he'd talk about how proud he was of one of his daughter's Florida Gators. I was lucky enough to caddy now and again for Doc at Spring Brook and he always took the time to see how my teeth and I were doing. Sending my heartfelt condolences to his loved ones. Rest easy, Doc.

Don "Doc" Hillner was one of nicest, warmest, most loyal people I have ever encountered in life. I was so fortunate to meet him at Spring Brook Country Club, where I began working over 25 years ago. He took an interest in my life at a young age and was always so encouraging and helpful along the way. When I was fortunate enough to be named head golf professional, Doc was one of the first people to call me and offer congratulations, but also offer advice and encouragement. It is a sad day without Doc, but having known him and remembering all the good times brings a smile to many faces. RIP Doc! You are sorely missed!

I met Doc at my first ABCD tournament in the spring of 2007. There could never have been a better ambassador for Hawk Pointe. Not only did he make me feel welcome, but he quickly introduced me to several other members as
"my friend Chris". I instantly felt like I truly made a new friend. We had an ongoing banter for the next twelve years, ending with a promise that we would play Spring Brook with some mutual friends in 2020. I deeply regret that we didn't fit it in sooner. Doc was a true gentlemen, always with an encouraging and upbeat word. Each year he was one of the highlights of returning to Hawk Pointe in the spring. Like most of the other members, we will miss him. To Jackie and the rest of your family, we wish you peace and comfort in what is surely a difficult time. "Doc, as always, it was a pleasure."

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Hillner while working at Hawk Pointe and have known him for over eight year. He and I had a secret joke that we laughed about every time I saw him. Even if it was a rough day at work he always made me smile. His advice last year for my son entering college for the first time was so appreciated. He always took the time to say hello and we always chatted about our families. He reminded me of my own father in so many ways. I will truly miss his kind heart. I am so sad to hear about his passing. May God comfort all of you at this most difficult time.

I met Don shortly after I joined Hawk Pointe in 2012 and enjoyed his company on many occasions. I got to know "Doc" even better when he joined Tom B., Don D. , and me for a trip to Notre Dame last fall to watch the Irish play Stanford on the gridiron. That trip reinforced in my mind what a special man that "Doc" was. I will light a candle for him at the Notre Dame grotto on my next visit to campus. My prayers go out to his family.
