Obituary of Phyllis Bocina

Phyllis Bocina, 90, of Far Hills, NJ passed away peacefully at Brightview Senior Living, Warren, NJ on April 6th. She was born on December 26th, 1929 in Newark to Pasquale and Constanza DeSpirito. She graduated from St. Vincent Academy in Newark, a school she continued to support her whole life. She then attended Georgian Court College and was married to Casper Bocina for almost 70 years as of this April 22nd. They had an incredible life together and raised 4 children in Short Hills where Casper, a real estate developer, built many homes during the 1950’s and 60’s. After 35 years in Short Hills, they moved to the Far Hills Polo Club in 1995. First and foremost, Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed competitive card games, tennis, golf and loved social gatherings and was an active member of Essex County Country Club, Roxciticus Golf Club and The Club at Pelican Bay, Naples, FL. She was a patron of many Catholic charities including being one of the founding philanthropists for the Shepherds of Youth Charitable Trust in 1984 which supports the efforts of the Vocationist Fathers and Sisters in Florham Park and St. Michael’s School in Newark. She was also very involved with community organizations such as the Somerset YMCA for many years. She was predeceased by her son Glen in 1982 and her beloved brother, Dr. Anthony DeSpirito earlier this year. She is survived by her husband Casper (95), daughters – Brenda Bocina Curnin (Tom), Barbara Bocina Curtin (Tom), son Bruce Bocina; her beloved grandchildren – Jonathan (Jen), Kristen (Michael), Katherine, Kylie, Bryce, Charlotte and Christopher.
