Obituary of Marlene Buelow Strazdas

Marlene Buelow Strazdas, 88, Long-time resident of Bernardsville Marlene passed away with her family at her side on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 after a brief illness at the Runnells Hospital for Specialized Care and Rehabilitation in Berkeley Heights. Born on May 30, 1931 in Winchester, Massachusetts, Marlene was the daughter of Edith (Eda) and Albert Buelow. She grew up in Somerville, Mass. She attended high school at The Academy of Notre Dame/Granby Street and graduated with the class of 1949. She then attended Emmanuel College in Boston, Mass. and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and Sociology in 1953. She was an elementary school teacher in Massachusetts and New Jersey until she began a family of her own. She met Albin Strazdas while they were both in college, and were married on July 24, 1954. They had four children, Pamela, Paula, William and Robert. The family moved to Bernardsville in 1979. Marlene’s hobbies included bridge which she played avidly with her husband and their friends in their younger days, and she belonged to a Ladies Bridge Club as well for many years. She was an excellent, gourmet-level cook and belonged to a Gourmet Club for many years. She was an avid reader all her life, and was a long-time patroness of the Bernardsville Library. Marlene was predeceased by her daughter, Paula, and survived by Albin, Pamela, William and Robert. Burial will be private. Marlene asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Our House Foundation at www.ourhousenj.org
