Obituary of Robert H Conway

ROBERT H. CONWAY, longtime Basking Ridge resident, owned commercial printing business in NYC Robert “Bob” Conway, 96, of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away on January 11, 2020 at Fellowship Village. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Eugene and Henrietta Conway, Bob grew up in Roselle, NJ and graduated from Abraham Clark High School in 1940 and Admiral Farragut Academy in 1942. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the aviation division. A 1948 graduate of Rutgers University with a BS in Business Administration, Bob was editor of the yearbook and a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity, crew team and student council. He married Phyllis Hutchison in 1949 and raised a family in Roselle and Basking Ridge. He worked in the family commercial printing business for 40 years and then retired to Martha’s Vineyard, MA. In his leisure time he enjoyed renovating houses, gardening, fine dining, international travel, classical music, restoring antique chairs (aka “The Chair Doctor”), and sailing. He was a devoted parishioner of the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church and the Chilmark Community Methodist Church on Martha’s Vineyard. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis; and by his brother, Richard. He is survived by his children Janet Conway Heslin (Buol), Robin Conway Morley (Tom), Betsy Tine-Jimenez (Paul), and David Conway (Karen); grandchildren Virgil Polit, Tara Morley Dorazio (John), Emily Morley, Jackson Tine, Kathryn Conway Hollander (Jay), and Heather Conway; great grandchildren Ronan and Callan; sister Nancy Bleser (Phil); loving companion, Nancy Heller, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in late winter at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church and interment will be in Chilmark, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Development Dept., 60 Park Place, Suite 900, Newark, NJ 07102.
