Obituary of Frederick F Horn
Frederick F. Horn, 84, passed away peacefully at Morristown Medical Center on Dec. 1st, 2019. He is remembered as a family-oriented husband, father and a generous friend. He possessed a brilliant mathematical mind, a passion for sports and a playful spirit.
Frederick was a business leader, teacher, author and pioneer in the global development of commodity futures trading. Prior to retirement, he was Senior Vice President of the Commodity Division at Prudential-Bache Financial Corporation. He was the author of Trading in Commodity Futures, a best-selling book and correspondence course used by many Wall Street firm training programs.
Frederick’s passion for sports began in high school as a competitive runner with Olympic ambitions before an injury ended his running career. As an adult he was an avid skier, golfer and tennis player. Taking up rowing later in life, he found great joy in sculling on the Schuylkill River.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of almost 60 years, Mary Gentile Horn, a luxury real estate specialist at Weichert Realtors for 30 years, and by his daughter, Caroline Horn, who works in venture capital and lives in California. He was predeceased by his son Rick, who died in 2008.
Frederick graduated from La Salle Military Academy in 1953 and received a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Fordham University in 1957. He earned a MBA in Statistics from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5th 4-7pm at the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 6th 11am at the Christ the King Church at 16 Blue Mill Road, New Vernon NJ.
