Obituary of Robert W Gale

Robert W. Gale, 92, of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away on Friday November 8, 2019 at
home with his family.
Robert (Bob) was born on August 22, 1927 in Syracuse, NY; he was the son of the late
Raymond Gale and Mary Agnes Sullivan Gale. He was a WWII Army Veteran and was
discharged in 1947. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Syracuse University
in 1953 as well as a Master’s Degree in 1960. He had a very accomplished career as a
Manager with the New York Telephone Company and AT&T for 42 years. He worked his
way up from driving a truck to be a successful Manager. Bob spent many years ‘giving
back’ to his community volunteering at the V.A. Hospital, United Way, Church, YMCA,
Boy Scouts, and the Bernards Township Library Board.
He will be remembered for his strong love of God and his family. He loved to tell the
story of his life, including lessons he learned along the way and often shared these
lessons with his family in the form of ‘lectures’. He enjoyed golf, ‘tinkering’ around the
house, and downhill skiing which he did until he was 85 years old! He always looked
forward to hitting the slopes during his annual trip to Vail, CO with his 3 sons. He grew
up in the depression and often reflected on the challenges with living through this period
and used that experience to mold him into a better, stronger man who worked hard for
everything.
On June 7, 1952, Bob married Mary Catherine Kiggins. They had a marriage full of
unconditional love and blessings for over 61 years before her passing in 2013.
Bob is survived by his loving children; Tim Gale of Bloomsbury NJ; Judy Stoddard
(Paul) of Poughkeepsie NY; Betsy Resker (Robert) of Bridgewater NJ; Tom Gale
(Kristin) of Racine WI; John Gale (Lisa) of Murrieta, CA; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-
grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his
wife Mary, he was predeceased by his brothers Leander and Ronald, his daughter-in-
law Mary and granddaughter Emma.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday November 15th at 10:00 AM at the Church
of St. James, 184 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ. Relatives and friends are
invited to visit the Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking
Ridge, NJ, Thursday November 14 th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers,
memorial donations may be offered in Bob’s name to St. Joseph’s Shrine, Warren, NJ
or Special Olympics.
