Obituary of Sarah Cullen
Sarah Bridget Cullen (Sally), 82, of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away peacefully on September 2, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Visitation Services will be held at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge on Friday, September 6, 2019 from 4-7pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. James Church, 184 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
Sally was born March 3, 1937, in Newark, New Jersey, to Bridget Harvey Coyle and Patrick James Coyle, both immigrants from Donegal, Ireland. One of nine children, she is survived by her sisters, Eileen Byrne and Kathleen Zipf, both residing in New Jersey.
After graduating from St Michael’s High School in Newark in 1955, Sally continued her education at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing and received her RN in 1958. In 1970, she received her BA in Health Education and School Nursing from Jersey City State College. Sally’s lifelong dedication to her nursing career spanned from floor nurse to charge nurse to becoming a well-respected supervisor. She later finished her career in private duty nursing. She was a hard working, compassionate nurse who treated her patients with dignity and respect.
Sally was intelligent, engaging and enjoyed sharing a laugh with friends, but her top priority was always her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with them at the beach and was always up for an ice cream at the Manasquan Inlet.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Cullen, of Basking Ridge, and her three daughters: Kathleen and her husband Gordon Gutjahr, Bridget and her husband James Zima and Patricia and her husband Edward Kolshorn; as well as her seven grandchildren: Briana, Erik, Michael, Jack, Sarah, Timothy and Bridget.
