Obituary of Joyce Schaefer

Joyce Schaefer, a loving mother of three, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the age of 77. 

Born and raised in Glen Rock, by Dottie and Clifford Jordan, she was a 1960 graduate of Glen Rock High School. Joyce attended the University of Rochester Medical Center, where she earned a BSN, and went on to work as a nurse and researcher for many years at Overlook Hospital and Drew University.

A resident of Mendham since 1969, and a devoted member of Hilltop Presbyterian Church for 50 years, she took great pride in the church community and activities, particularly her Bible study group. Joyce had a lifelong love of the shore, having spent her childhood summers in South Mantoloking, and jumped at every chance to visit a beach, particularly those near Charleston, SC. A perfect day for Joyce involved the simple pleasures of a glass of iced tea, a seafood dinner and watching the sunset. She also loved being a grandmother and hosting her grandchildren for play dates, which always involved a great selection of cookies.

Joyce is survived by her children Julie, Richard, and Jeff (Betsy); her grandchildren, William and Kara; her sister, Carole (Louis); and her four grand-dogs Buddy, Bear, Cassie and Moose.

Visiting hours will be held from 4pm - 7pm on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ. Funeral Service will be at Hilltop Presbyterian Church, 20 Hilltop Road, Mendham, NJ on Thursday, January 24 at 11 am, followed by a burial at Somerset Hills Memorial Park.
