Obituary of Edwin M Banks, Jr.
Edwin Martin, “Ed”, Banks Jr., 56, of Benardsville, NJ passed away on January 16th in Morristown, NJ.
Ed was born in Paterson, NJ on August 18, 1962 to Edwin and Sheilah Banks. He graduated from Glen Rock High School in 1980, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree (History) from Rutgers College, and MBA (Finance) from Rutgers University.
Ed met the love of is his life, Kim Thorndike, in 1987, and they were married in 1991. Ed and Kim settled down in New Vernon, NJ and had two children, Christopher and Leigha. They then moved to Bernardsville where they have resided for 22 years.
Ed had a long and distinguished career in finance, spending 18 years with WR Huff Asset Management as partner, chief investment officer and senior portfolio manager. Ed left WR Huff and founded Washington Corner Capital Management. During his career he led the creditor’s committees of Charter Medical, Adelphia, MidAmerican Waste and Sirius Satellite Radio, among others. Ed also served on the board of directors of several companies including CVS Caremark, Virgin Media, CKX, Charter Medical/Magellen Health Services, Arch Wireless, Del Monte Foods and Multi-Market Radio.
Ed enjoyed golfing, sailing, and spending time on Long Beach Island. He was an avid Rutgers and Jets football fan. He was involved in several charities, most notably Team LeGrand of the Reeve Foundation, and the Institute for Children with Cancer and Blood Disorders.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Kim of Bernardsville, his son Christopher of Boise ID, daughter Leigha of Boston, MA, mother, Sheilah Nitzsche, sister Anne Alley and her husband Peter Alley, sister Debbie Regan and her husband, Mike, parents-in-law Ellsworth and Elaine Thorndike, brothers-in-law Eric and William Thorndike and sister in law Elissa and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Memorial visitation will be held on Monday January 21, 2019 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ, from 4:00 - 8:00pm. Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, 111 Claremont Road, Bernardsville, NJ at 11:00am on Tuesday January 22, 2019.
