Obituary of Catherine A Sorge

Catherine A. Sorge long time Basking Ridge resident passed away peacefully at home on December 26, 2018. Daughter of Frank and Ann Novak. She is survived by her husband Joseph and her five children; Christina Amerman CPA graduate of Lehigh University, Catherine Shimsky, Esq. Pharmaceutical attorney, graduate of Seton Hall Law School and Georgetown University, JoAnn Streem Insurance Executive, graduate of University of Illinois, Peter Sorge Environmental Executive Master Degree from NJIT, Undergraduate from Boston College, and Dr. Judith Majewski Energy Storage Expert with a doctorate from Rutgers and degree from University of Chicago, and 14 grandchildren. Cathy is survived by her 9 brothers and sisters. Catherine was co-founder and financial controller of the family environmental firm located in Somerville. Cathy was a long-time member and past president of St. James Rosary Altar Society, the League of Women voters, and numerous other volunteer organizations. Cathy was the manager of Ripple Hill Farm, a family owned peach and apple farm located in Basking Ridge. She was one of the founding members of the Bernards Township Agricultural Committee. Catherine was appointed by the Somerset County Freeholders to the Agricultural advisory committee and later appointed to the County Agricultural Board. She was recognized for her unique perspective, strong opinions, and common sense analysis on the Board and was appointed as a delegate for the County to the State Agricultural Convention on several occasions. Cathy lived life to the fullest, known for her optimism, positive outlook, and desire to provide a helping hand to family, friends, and her community. Cathy was a friend to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and the community she served. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home. 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ from 2:00 - 4:00pm & 6:00 - 8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019, 11:00am at St, James Church, 184 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge.
