Obituary of E. Dale Hooper
Dale Hooper, 90, passed away the morning of December 5, 2018 in Basking Ridge, NJ at Fellowship Village. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dale graduated from Alderdice High School in 1946 and joined the US Army the same year. He received an honorable discharge in 1947. Upon receiving his degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1951, Dale moved to New Jersey to begin a lifelong career with Esso/Exxon. Dale and Barbara were married in September of that year – the culmination of a chance meeting on a Pittsburgh streetcar in 1948. In 1958 Dale received his Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Newark College of Engineering. While Scotch Plains, NJ was home, work assignments took the family to Billings, Montana, and overseas to Holland and London. Dale retired from Exxon in 1990 as a Senior Engineering Advisor. Hobbies before and after retirement included genealogy, tennis, chess, travelling with family, friends and the Exxon annuitants, and following the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 67 years and two children, Patti of Basking Ridge, NJ and James (Jim) and his wife Ann of Houston, Texas. In addition he is survived by a sister Mary (Joe) Lishok of Lawrenceville, GA. and brothers Jack Hooper of Pittsburgh, PA., Steve (Elizabeth) Hooper of Alpharetta, GA., and Robert Hooper of Conyers, GA. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Fellowship Village, Basking Ridge, NJ.
