Obituary of Robert Tansill

Robert Tansill lived an incredible life filled with smiles and love. On Saturday, November 3 he passed away peacefully. “Bob” was born in New York City to John “Duncan” Tansill and Anne Hill Tansill and was a Son of the American Revolution. He served in the Navy during WW2 and then graduated from Trinity College (class of 1950) in Hartford, CT. He spent his career as a textile executive, traveling the country and touching many lives. Bob was a longtime resident of Short Hills, NJ before moving to Basking Ridge, NJ a few years ago. 

Bob was adored by his family and friends. He was married to Alice English Tansill in 1953, and is survived by his three children Mary Beth Childs (Michael), John (Susan), and Patricia Post (Donald). He was the world’s best grandfather to Robert and Bradley Childs, Chris Post, and Kara, Amy, Mary Claire, and Ian Tansill.    

He was a faithful man and proud parishioner of both Christ Church (Short Hills, NJ) and St. Mark’s (Basking Ridge, NJ). Whether it was his daily morning exercises featuring 100 sit-ups or playing 9 holes with family and friends at Canoe Brook Country Club, Bob was extremely active and lived life to the fullest. He thoroughly enjoyed attending Seton Hall University basketball games and watching the Mets on television. 

All who knew Bob were blessed to receive valuable life lessons, like enjoy the simple pleasures of life and treat everyone with respect. Bob represented the best in all of us, and lives on through our love, positivity, and laughter. 

Visitation will be held on Tuesday November 6, 2018 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ from 4:00-7:00PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 10:00am at St. Marks Episcopal Church, 140 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ. Burial will be private for the family.
