Obituary of Carol Bernhardi
Carol Bernhardi, (born Carol Staley on August 25, 1929), passed away peacefully on October 3, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. Carol was born to Edward and Claire Staley in Washington Heights, NY. She spent summers in Long Beach, NY with her family, where she won the “Prettiest Baby” contest. She moved to Malverne, NY in 1950, where she was an active community servant and well-known crossing guard with the Malverne Police Department. Carol relocated to New Jersey where she was recognized as “Citizen of the Year” in her Ridge Oak community. Carol imparted her love of crocheting and reading to those around her. “Grandma Carol” had a witty sense of humor, a signature hair style, and a never ending supply of chocolate candy.
Carol is survived by her son Edward Bernhardi Sr. & his partner Sherry Duksin, Carol’s grandchildren; Ernest, Edward Jr., Elizabeth, Christian, Jordan, Matthew & Scott Kaplan, their father Stanley Kaplan, Geraldine, Marie, Dusty, and Carol’s great-grandchild; Keira Grace.
Carol was preceded in death by her daughters Ruth and Caryl Ann, her sister Dorothy, and her former husband; Dr. Ernest Bernhardi Jr.
She will forever live in our hearts.
