Obituary of Anne Dolan

Anne Dolan, 98, of Basking Ridge, died on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at home surrounded by her loving Family. She was born in Maghera, County Derry, Northern Ireland, the youngest of seven children of the late James and Margaret Dugan. Mrs. Dolan emigrated to New York City at age 16 and eventually resided in Great Neck, N.Y., where she worked as a governess until she met the love of her life, Bernard Dolan, from Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, Ireland. They married in 1935 and parented five children. Mrs. Dolan was an active parishioner at St. Anastasia Church, Douglaston, and was a well known real estate agent at Broadway Agency in Flushing, N.Y. After living in her home in Douglaston, N.Y. for 61 years, she moved to her daughter Maureen's home in Basking Ridge in 2005. She will be remembered for her strong faith in God, her love of family, her many kindnesses to others, her wisdom and great sense of humor. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Patrick Dolan in 1973; her brother Michael Dugan; sisters Rose Hartnett, Mary Alexsey, Catherine Jennings and Margaret Osgood; grandchildren Bernard Dolan and Luke Hally III; and son-in-law Daniel Sullivan. Surviving are her five children and their spouses, Maureen and Luke Hally of Basking Ridge, Suzanne Sullivan of Emerald Isle, N.C., Bernadette and Richard Masur of Minneapolis, MN., Farrell and Dianne Dolan of Boston, MA, and Siobhan Joan Dolan of New York City.; thirteen grandchildren, Deirdre Hally Shaffer, Mary Hally Shortall, Tara Hally Smith, Col. Daniel Sullivan, Lt. Col. Farrell Sullivan, Maj. Brendan Sullivan, Mary Kate Sullivan Bailey, David Masur, Matthew Masur, Andrew Masur, Farrell Dolan, Jr., Maegan Dolan Skinner, and Bridget Dolan Brown; and 30 great-grandchildren. A liturgy of Christian burial was held on Saturday March 3, 2012 at the St James Church, Basking Ridge, burial was private. Relatives and friends were invited to visit with the family on Friday March 2, 2012 at the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, Basking Ridge.
