Obituary of Robert B Kennedy
Robert Bryan Kennedy of Basking Ridge died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 1. He was 97. Born in New York City, his family moved to Wood-Ridge, NJ where he graduated from Rutherford High School as valedictorian and then majored in electrical engineering at Rutgers University, Class of 1942. After serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Europe and achieving the rank of Captain, he returned home to work as an engineer for AT&T in a career that spanned 42 years and a variety of managerial positions, including work on communication satellites with Bell Labs. In 1976, he earned his Masters in Business Science at Pace University.
He married June Oliva in 1949 and they raised their family in River Edge, Little Silver, and Basking Ridge, where he retired. He served on the Board of Directors of the Bernards Township Library for more than a decade and volunteered for 28 years at the USVA Hospital in Lyons. An avid reader, painter, solver of crossword puzzles, and golfer, he is survived by his wife of 69 years, daughters Meg Kennedy (Jon Pastor) and Mary Troianello (Ed), four grandsons, and one great grand daughter. A funeral Mass will be held at The Church of St. James, 184 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:15 AM with a viewing at the church from 10:00 - 11:00 AM.
