Obituary of Edward Gorman
Edward Thomas Gorman, 84, of Somerset, N.J. formerly of Bayonne, N.J., was surrounded by family when he died peacefully on Friday, August 31, 2018. At his time of death, he was a resident of the Fireman’s Home in Boonton, N.J. where he received excellent care during his final month of life. Above and beyond his failing physical health, Ed is yet another victim of the 9/11 attacks as he died of the broken heart he sustained thesepast 17 years. Having lost his eldest son Thomas Edward Gorman, (a Port Authority Police officer who was killed while saving others on 9/11), and then his other son, John Edward Gorman, (a Credit Suisse employee/9/11 survivor, who also saved others, but succumbed to 9/11 related cancer 15 years later), Ed, a brave firefighter himself, was robbed of the unbridled joy that should have been his during his retirement years. Despite the love that he continued to give and receive to his wife and remaining family, Ed was heavily burdened by the grief of these losses.
Ed will always be remembered as a family man, one who unconditionally put his family first and who unhesitatingly offered his loving embrace and advice as a source of safety and security. A 28-year veteran of the Bayonne Fire Department, Ed was acknowledged on separate occasions for having saved a toddler and a fellow firefighter from death in burning buildings. Ed loved a good-natured sarcastic joke, the Simpsons, a coupon that led to a great bargain, a shot of Sambuca with his coffeeand his post-it note reminders that became one of his endearing trade-marks.
Ed is survived by his loving, devoted and tremendously resilient wife of 62 years, Theresa (Pellecchia) Gorman and his daughter Theresa Creedon, her husband Marc and granddaughters Rachel and Jessica; his daughter in law Tom’s wife, Barbara Gorman and their 3 children, Laura Pellegrino, her husband Eric, great-grandchildren Ryanneand Tommy, Patrick Gorman and Bridget Finnerty and her husband John, and by his daughter in law John’s wife Janeth Gorman, and their 3 children, Jeannette, partner Danny, great grandchildren Gianna and Daniella, Kathy Chandhok, husband Pawan and great granddaughter Layla and Kevin Gorman.
