Obituary of Catherine "Kate" Herbster

Catherine Henry Herbster,  80,  passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Visitation will be at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Catherine is survived by her husband of 58 years, Gerald; her children, William Herbster (Anne) of Westfield, N.J. and Christine Clifford of Madison, NJ; sister, Elspeth Sawyer of Columbus, OH and her grandsons, Alexander and Benjamin Herbster.  She was preceded in death by her parents Elspeth and William Henry.  Catherine, known as Kate, was born in Rahway, N.J. She graduated from Linden High School in 1955 and went on to receive her bachelor's degree from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA in 1959, where she met her husband Gerald.   Kate enjoyed a successful career in education for almost 50 years considering herself a “career educator”.  Kate started her career as an English teacher at Linden High School and more recently was a substitute teacher and guidance administrator at primary and secondary schools in and around the Bernards Township area.  Looking for more of an adventure after a raising her two children, she received a degree from NYU and worked for a short period of time as a paralegal in New York City.  Kate enjoyed playing tennis, golf and bridge with her friends. She was an avid New York Giants fan and held season tickets for the past 21 years.  But her true passion was completing the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle. 

Always quick witted and entertaining Kate will be missed by family and friends alike.
