Obituary of Dorothy I Shea

Dorothy I. Shea, 96, of Basking Ridge, NJ, passed away on Monday, April 16 at her home.

Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, she lived in Scotch Plains, NJ for 40 years before moving to Basking Ridge in 1999. She also maintained a residence in Jefferson, Maine.

Dorothy was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Jersey City and attended business school after that.

Following her marriage to John H. Shea, who predeceased her, Dorothy devoted her time to raising their five children. She most enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly at the lakeside home in Maine where she spent cherished summers with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Later in life, Dorothy became an avid photographer, and established a local photography business with two like-minded friends. She and her husband also enjoyed traveling, and she especially enjoyed combining travel with her love of photography. Dorothy was also a long-time active parishioner of the Church of St. James in Basking Ridge.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Janet S. Manahan of Sutton, MA and Linda S. Hasenfus of Doylestown, PA; two sons, John T. Shea of Rumson, NJ and Terry Shea of Scotch Plains, NJ, 12 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Eileen S. Spingler and her husband of 58 years, John H. Shea.

Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018, 11:00am at St. James Church, 184 S Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ. Burial of ashes will be Saturday, April 21, 2018, 11:00am at Fairview Cemetery, Westfield, NJ.
