Obituary of Margaret M Murphy

Margaret Mary McDonnell Murphy of Basking Ridge, NJ, devoted wife, mother and friend, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2018 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 84 years old.  Margaret “Margie”, who loved to play golf and spend time with family and friends, is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Robert J. Murphy and her six children, Robert J. Murphy Jr. of Chevy Chase, MD, Margaret Mary (David) Ryder and Sheila (Michael) Azarian, both of Summit, NJ, James F. McDonnell (Margaret) Murphy of Cleveland, OH, Charlotte (Joseph) Cox of Johns Creek, GA, and Lisa (Ryan) Dooley of Bernardsville, NJ.  She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren, Maureen, Mac, Conner, Kevin, and Daniel Murphy, Nick and Caroline Ryder, Charlotte and Michael Azarian, Molly, Megan, Katie, and Jimmy Cox, Patrick and Colleen Dooley, and by her sister, Mary Murnane of Johns Island, FL.

Margaret Mary was one of fourteen children of the late Anna M. and James F. McDonnell of New York City and Southampton, NY. She attended Convent of the Sacred Heart in New York City and Noroton, CT, as well as Manhattanville College.  In addition to her parents, she is pre-deceased by her six brothers, James Jr., Charles, T. Murray, Gerard, Morgan, Sean as well as six sisters, Katherine Sullivan, Anne Johnson, Genevieve Bissell, Sheila Collins, and Barbara Hennessey.

A mass of Christian burial will take place at Saint James Church in Basking Ridge, NJ on Saturday, March 10th at 11am.   In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to Delbarton School, Morristown, NJ.
