Obituary of Malcolm C Crew

MALCOLM CHARLES CREW, Ph.D. Dr. Malcolm Charles Crew, 84, died on Dec. 16th, 2011, at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge. He was the son of Malcolm R. Crew, M.B.E., and Mary Chandler Crew of Santiago, Chile. Born in Columbus, Ohio, he attended The GrangeinSantiago, Chile, and came to the U.S. in 1944 to attend college. He received his B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Columbia. Dr. Crew served in the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII. Dr. Crew was a pharmaceutical research specialist in drug metabolism at Warner-Lambert and Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals. A member of the American Chemical Society, the Chemical Society of London, and the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, he co-authored numerous papers. He was a charter member of the International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics and a member of Sigma Xi. Dr. Crew was also a member of the American Philatelic Society, specializing in the stamps of Chile and South America. He was scoutmaster of Troop 131, Boy Scouts of America, for 9 years in Mendham Township. He chaired the Finance Committee at Fellowship Village. Dr. Crew is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joan M. Egner Crew, three sons: Drs. Richard M. Crew of Gainesville, FL; Geoffrey B. Crew of Acton, MA, and Roger F. Crew of Mercer Island, WA, and seven grandchildren: Alexander, Elizabeth, Hilary, Philip, William, Kathryn and Rebekah. There will be a memorial service at Fellowship Village at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
