Arnold J. Wulfken, 98 Electrical Engineer, father, grandfather, great-grandfather Arnold J. Wulfken, 98, of Fellowship Village in Bernards Township, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Relatives and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Mon., Sept. 12, 2011 and Tues. Sept. 13, 2011 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, N.J. 07920. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wed., Sept. 14, 2011, at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home. Arnold was born in Antwerp, Belgium, son of the late Philipp and Marie Wulfken of Germany. Arriving at Ellis Island at age 3, he later became an American citizen. A graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, Arnold received a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (B.S.E.E.) from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. Arnold worked for the American Transformer Co. in Newark, N.J. as a Senior Engineer, participating in the "Manhattan Project" during World War II. He later joined Corbet & Tinger as a Design Engineer designing power transformers and power plants. From 1972 to 1982, he worked as Principal Design Engineer for Ebasco Services located in Two World Trade Center. Arnold was a life member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and a long time member and usher at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Arnold enjoyed 71 years of marriage to his loving wife Adele until her passing in 2009. He is survived by his daughters, Beverly D. Siglain (husband Edward, deceased) of South Huntington, N.Y., and Sandra W. Ruggiero and her husband, Carl, of Basking Ridge, N.J.; grandchildren, Sharon Bevacqua, Lauren, Wulfken, Dawn, Eric, and Kirk Siglain, Carl, Robert, and Alessandra Ruggiero; and great-grandchildren, Rachel, Jonah, and Julia Bevacqua. Arnold was predeceased by his son, Robert and by his brother Howard and sister Leoni. Devoted to his family, Arnold lived a long and active life, traveling throughout the world. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying biographies and history. His sharp wit and warm and loving ways will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
