Obituary of Emily Castrilli

Emily U. Castrilli 90, Longtime Bernardsville Resident, Mother of five Emily Ucciferri Castrilli of Bernardsville, died in her sleep at the Chelsea Assisted Living Facility in Warren, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, August 27, 2011. It is very fitting that this dynamic woman left us in the middle of Hurricane Irene. Born in Isernia, Italy on August 21, 1921, Emily grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Bernardsville with her new husband and lifelong love, Michael A. Castrilli, after their marriage in 1946. During the early years, Emily was a homemaker and mother to five children. She later worked as a medical transcriptionist for the Veterans' Administration in Lyons, NJ, and then an administrator for Dr. Douglas Costibile until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bernardsville. Emily loved to read, garden and travel, but most of all she loved raising her children and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Emily is survived by her loving and dedicated children, Carol Bocchino and husband Klaus Oebel of Bernardsville, Susan Annunziato and husband John of Bernardsville, Mary Schoenberg and husband Kurt of Basking Ridge, Michael Castrilli, Jr., and wife Judy of Basking Ridge, and Amy Stidworthy and husband Gary of Bernardsville, her seven grandchildren, Jim and David Bocchino, Gina Annunziato, Kurt and Stephanie Schoenberg, and Kaitlyn and Kevin Stidworthy, her nine great-grandchildren, and a sister Netty White and husband Donald in Jackson, NJ. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Michael Castrilli, Sr., who died in 2005. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM and from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, September 2, at the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in 111 Claremont Road, Bernardsville, NJ. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge. In lieu of flowers, donations in Emily's memory can be made to the Atlantic Home Care Hospice, 33 Bleeker Street, Millburn, NJ 07041.
