Obituary of David G. Bosland
David G. Bosland, 73, of Bridgewater, N.J. and Block Island, R.I., passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2010, in Bridgewater, New Jersey, after a short illness.
He will be deeply missed by Caroline M. Bosland, his wife of 52 years; four sons, Brian Bosland of Hillsborough, N.J., Carl Bosland and wife Sharon Cornelius of Denver, Colorado, Mark and wife Gina Bosland of Colts Neck, New Jersey, and Kenneth and wife Wendi Bosland of North Attleboro, M.A; six wonderful grandchildren, Lindsey, Julie, Ellen, Benjamin, Henry, and Marta; two loving siblings, brother Paul C. Bosland and wife Kathleen of Amelia Island, FL and Stowe, Vermont, and sister Ann King and husband Irving King of Noank, CT and Amelia Island, FL; and many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. He is predeceased by his loving parents, Chelcie and Betty Bosland; and his loving sister Martha Armstrong.
Dave was born in Providence, RI on July 31, 1936. He graduated from Lockwood High School in 1954. He spent many joyful summers of his youth in Waubay, South Dakota, his father's hometown. Dave's love of Block Island, RI began in his teens as a bell-hop at the former Ocean View Hotel. He graduated from his beloved Brown University in 1958, following in the footsteps of his loving brother Paul, and his father, Chelcie, who was chair of the Brown University Economics Department. After graduation, Dave took a position with the Consolidated Edison Company of New York. He retired from Con Ed as an executive 35 years later. Dave loved golf, walking, sailing, singing in the Block Island Ecumenical choir, and salt water fishing with his sons and grandchildren. He was involved with many charitable organizations throughout his life, including the Boy Scouts of America, the Jaycees, the Block Island Nature Conservancy, and the Block Island Residence Association.
