Obituary of Elizabeth L. Christensen

Elizabeth (Betty) L. Christensen, born December 24, 1923, passed away in Fellowship Village Retirement Community on April 28, 2011 where she was a resident for the past six years. She previously lived in Basking Ridge and Maplewood where she was born. Betty graduated from Columbia H.S. in Maplewood and attended Pratt Institute and Barbizon School of Modeling before working as a Service Representative for the N.J. Bell Telephone Co. for 41 years. She was a member of the New Vernon Presbyterian church where she was a Deacon and a past member and President of the Junior Women's Club of Maplewood. In her retirement years she volunteered for the New Eyes for the Needy, enjoyed travelling and telling many stories of these trips and her childhood summers in Hunterdon County. Throughout her life she was a wonderful seamstress, knitter, and gardener and enjoyed her many dogs. She was the daughter of Lillian Louise Hague and Christian Walter Chistensen. Surviving her are sister Dorothy Voorhees, niece Jann Slapin and husband Harold, nephew Robin Voorhees and wife Judy and four grandnieces and nephews, Jonathan, Emily, Kristy and Douglas and a great grand nephew Benjamin Slapin.
