Obituary of Jean M Quilty

Jean M. Quilty, 78, of New Vernon, NJ passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, April 4th, 2011, surrounded by her beloved family. Jean was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 11th, 1932. She was one of six children of Richard and Edith Wedig. She grew up in Cincinnati and subsequently attended Xavier University. She met her future husband, Arthur M. Quilty, while he was working for Procter & Gamble. They were married on April 14th, 1956 and began raising a family. When their first child was a year old they moved to Paris, France, and in the years that followed they moved to Brussels, Belgium, and then Gothenburg, Sweden before returning to the United States. They moved to their home in New Vernon, NJ in 1966, where she lived until her death. She gave support to her husband's career as he advanced toward becoming a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of Johnson & Johnson. She was an incredible homemaker and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening and in her later years never missed a theatrical performance, sporting event or graduation that any of her three grandchildren participated in. She was preceded in death by her adored daughter, Elizabeth, and her loving husband, Arthur M. Quilty. She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Quilty Williams of Far Hills, NJ; her son, Michael Quilty of New York, NY; and her son, Matthew Quilty of New Hope, PA. She will be deeply missed by her three grandchildren, Taylor, Roxanne and Mason. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9th at The Church of Christ the King in New Vernon, NJ. Jean will be laid to rest at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge, NJ.
