Obituary of John H. Kinney
John (Jack) Henry Kinney, 86, passed away peacefully, at home on Saturday, April 2, 2011. He was born in Plainfield, NJ, on November 22, 1924 to Ella Miller and Henry Kinney, and graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1942. Jack served his country in World War II, as a member of the 333 Infantry Regiment of the 84th Infantry Division (the Rail Splitters), and earned a Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart, in the European campaign. His tour of duty also earned him the European Theater Medal with three battle stars: Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.
Jack was a 1950 graduate of Rutgers University. Following graduation he worked at NJ Bell - now known as Verizon - in the data section of the company. Jack served the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church as a Deacon and Trustee, and was also an active member of the Somerset-Hunterdon County Master Gardeners and the Watnong Chapter of the Rock Garden Society. He is survived by his wife, Janet Borman Kinney; three children, Susan K. Fusco, John B. Kinney and Richard H. Kinney; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, money may be donated to the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery or to the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church Historic Building Fund.
A service will be held at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1 East Oak Street, Basking Ridge, NJ on Friday April 8, 2011 at 11:00am followed by burial in the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invite to visit with the family on Thursday April 7, 2011 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home 101 South Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ.
