Frederick A. Koernig, 82, of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away April 6th, 2011. He was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. Fred graduated from Jersey Prep in Jersey City and from the New York School of Insurance, and was a member of the Army Reserves from 1953 to 1959, rising to the rank of Specialist 1st Class. He and his wife Rita lived in Union Beach before moving to Basking Ridge in 1962. Fred was the owner and President of the American Educational Institute in Basking Ridge, NJ since 1986. He previously held executive management positions with Continental Insurance Company and Midland Insurance Company, both located in New York City. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rita nee Grady, his children James Koernig and his wife Patricia of Basking Ridge, NJ; Mark Koernig and his wife Dottie of Summit, NJ; Janice Stemple and her husband Michael of High Bridge, NJ; Amy Pochick and her husband Bill of Gillette, NJ, and 10 grandchildren, Kristin, Kevin, Steven, Bob, Leslie, and Emily Koernig, Jennifer, Brian, Tim Stemple, and Kyle Pochick. Fred is also survived by a sister Carol O' Day. He is predeceased by his granddaughter Joanna Marie Stemple, and two sisters Sally Peer and Connie Butcher. Fred was an avid golfer, a member of several New Jersey golf clubs as well as clubs in Naples, Florida. He and his wife Rita enjoyed playing many courses throughout the United States and he was a frequent Tuesday morning player at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club. One of his greatest enjoyments in life was spending time with his family, hosting many holiday brunches and dinners surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
