Obituary of Philip H. Thayer

Philip H Thayer, 96, of Basking Ridge, passed away on Friday January 28, 2011 at the Morristown Memorial Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday February 10, 2011 at 3:30pm at the Fellowship Village Care Center, 9000 Fellowship Road, Basking Ridge, NJ. There will also be a comeration for Phil at the regularly scheduled noon service on Wednesday February 9, 2011 in the chapel at the Presbyterian Church of Morristown. He attended the Harvard University where he graduated with a BS in Physics and an MA in Communications Engineering in 1936. After graduating he went right to work for Bell Laboratory where he was employed for over 50 years retiring as Executive Director of Computer Technology. Phil served his country proudly In the United States Navy from 1943-1953. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Morristown for many years, a member Morris County Golf Club, a member of the Woods Hole Golf Club, Wood Hole, Ma, he served on the Montclair College Board of Trustees, Board Trustees at the Morris Museum of Arts and Science and throughout his life he was an avid golfer, swimmer, sailor and volunteer. He was pre deceased by his wife in 1999 Marjorie M Brown, and his daughter Juliette P Thayer in 1990. Surviving are his Daughter Margot T Morris and her husband Jeff Palmer, Parland, Tx, and three Nephews Peter, John, and Nelson Clapp. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Philip's name to the American Red Cross, PO Box 4002018 Des Moines, IA 50340-2018, Fellowship Village Resident Benevolent Fund, 9000 Fellowship Road, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920, Presbyterian Church of Morristown, 65 S STREET, MORRISTOWN NJ 07960, or to a charity of your choice.
