Obituary of Eugene R Kelly

Loving husband and father, Eugene R Kelly, 87, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Basking Ridge, NJ on Dec. 6, 2017. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 9am-11am at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ. Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge. Born in Grand Rapids, MI on 9-12-1930, Gene later resided in Somerset, NJ before settling in Basking Ridge in 1972. He worked as a senior engineer at Western Electric - Lucent Technologies in Newark, NJ for over 30 years. Gene grew up in the East Lansing, MI area and later graduated from Michigan University where he met his loving wife Joan A Kelly, who passed away in 2000. He also served for the Armed Forces 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War and enjoyed many years being an active member of both the Scotch Plains American Legion and the Somerset Hills Kiwanis Club. His other enjoyments over the years included participating in the many Bowling and Bocce activities he organized along with his friends, and the numerous get togethers, in general, with his many friends and family. Also, of course, no one can forget his addiction to watching his beloved Michigan Wolverines Football games which were never missed. Hail to the Victors, Pop! Gene is survived by his sons, Bill, John & Chris and his daughters, Kathleen and Margaret, along with their many children and grand-children.
