Obituary of Dorothy L Clarke

Dorothy L. Clarke, 89, formerly of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the home of her daughter, Darlene, with whom she resided for the past 6 years. She was born in Brooklyn, New York to Henry and Frieda Butt. She was preceded in death by her husband Leslie, to whom she had been married for 53 years. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret, and a son, Douglas. Surviving are her children, Darlene Amsler of Newport, PA, Cynthia Sabatini of Mechanicsburg, PA, Beverly (David) Porter of Dunbarton, NH, Raymond (Cindy) Clarke of Gillette, NJ and Audrey (Peter) Cummings of Milton, MA. She will be missed by her ten grandchildren, Joshua, Rachel, Sarah, Danielle, Chris, Patrick, Jillian, Scott, Timothy and Dana. After graduating from high school, Dorothy worked as a secretary to the president of Hanover Bank, NY until she became a full-time mother. In addition to caring for her family, "Dottie" devoted much of her time to volunteering at her church, the Basking Ridge library, Ridge Oak, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was a long-time member of the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church and the Eastern Star. Somehow, she also found time to be a creative seamstress, kept beautiful gardens in her backyard, and enjoyed camping and traveling with her husband, family and friends. She lived a full life and brought joy to many. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017, 11:00 at First Presbyterian Church, Oak Street, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
