Obituary of Joy M Cowan

Joy Marie Cowan, 54, of Basking Ridge, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016, with her family at her side, after a year-long battle with leukemia and complications from her stem cell transplant. Joy was born on October 10, 1961, in Summit, NJ. She has lived in Basking Ridge for over 20 years. She worked as a nurse for many years before becoming a nurse care manager. She loved travel, books, bike riding, and spending time with her family and friends. Joy was a good friend to everyone, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her funny stories will keep us laughing for a lifetime. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, and is survived by her parents, Catherine Baszczewski and William Cowan; her stepparents, Linda Cowan and Walter Baszczewski; her sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Dirk Smith; her brother and sister-in-law William and Mary Cowan II; her step-sister NaMi Baszczewski; and her nieces, Abriana Smith, Alexandra Caplan, and Hallie and Kailey Cowan. She also leaves behind loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, friends, and co-workers. Joy's family is in the process of setting up a memorial fund for Joy, to go towards an annual award for the Best Care Manager at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home at 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 30, at Stonecrest Community Church, 11 Technology Drive North, Warren, NJ 07059.
