Obituary of Denise B McGlone

Denise Boutross McGlone, 72, of Bernardsville, NJ passed away on February 6, 2024. Denise was born in Brooklyn on February 2, 1952 to Elizabeth Ara and Joseph Boutross. She graduated from St. Saviour High School and received a bachelor's degree in Education from Dunbarton College in Washington, DC.  She went on to graduate with distinction and an MBA in Finance from American University, launching herself into an illustrious 40-year finance career.

Denise was a pioneer of interest rate swaps and derivative trading on Wall Street in the 1980s before being hired in 1991 to launch a global derivatives unit for Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank. In the 90s, acted as the CFO of Sallie Mae where she was responsible for a balance sheet of $50 billion and a team of over 200 professionals.  She continued on to use these skills to build a derivatives business for Aon Corporation and serve as Chief Financial Officer of Lucent Technologies, where she received multiple awards for excellence in treasury and risk management. The latter portion of her career was spent as CFO for three major credit unions: Affinity (2007-2014), Pentagon Federal (2015-2019), and Teachers (2020-2023).  At each company, she strengthened the balance sheet and introduced new hedging tools while fostering a spirit of community and teamwork.

Denise was widely recognized as a trailblazer in the field of risk management, garnering numerous accolades throughout her career, including being named among the "100 Most Influential People in Finance" by Treasury and Risk Management Magazine, and the "50 Most Influential Risk Managers" by Risk Magazine, earning the title of "CFO Superstar" by Global Finance, and recognition as a "Top Woman in Finance" by Euromoney.

Outside of work, Denise’s children, nieces, and nephews were her greatest pride.  She enjoyed spending time with friends and family at dinners out and on beach trips. Although she is predeceased by her husband Vince McGlone, sister Joanne DeRosa, and brother James Boutross, Denise is survived by her children, Patrick and Elizabeth, as well as her sister Patty Hamway (and husband Raymond) and an innumerable number of beloved family members and friends.
