Obituary of Joyce M Cygler

Joyce M. (Puelo) Cygler (82) passed away on June 3, 2023. Joyce was born on December 1, 1940, in Bloomfield, NJ, and is a lifelong resident of New Jersey, eventually settling in Basking Ridge, NJ. After graduating from Glenn Ridge High School in 1958, Joyce attended Bucknell University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1962.

After graduating from Bucknell, she went to work as a systems analyst and programmer for IBM, where she met her husband, Joseph Cygler. Soon thereafter, they were engaged in June 1963 and married in November 1963, celebrating 60 years of matrimony.

Joyce's talents were both vast and unique. She enjoyed a long career in the fashion industry as a retail manager for brands, including Talbots and Brook Brothers. Then she had a successful career as a business owner designing and producing custom bathing suits. But when the opportunity came to spend more time with family, Joyce left that all behind to partner with her daughter in a new successful business venture designing and making custom children’s towels.

In her "spare" time, Joyce took advantage of the outdoors. She enjoyed tennis, golf, skiing, and gardening. Joyce was the president of a women's tennis league, but the ultimate athletic achievement came when she scored a hole-in-one at New Jersey National Golf Club.

However, let there be no mistake about it that Joyce’s true passion was spending time with her husband and family. Joyce is survived by two daughters Noreen (John) Capo of Basking Ridge, NJ and Karen (Scott) Beaver of Hampstead, NC, and three grandchildren, Alexandra Capo, Samantha Capo, and Michael Joseph (MJ) Beaver.

Joyce is also survived by her brother Frank C. Puelo of Utah, her nephews Frank, Jr. and R. James (Jamie), and too many loving friends, business associates, golf and tennis partners, and friends of the West Point community to count.

Joyce is predeceased by her mother and father, Frank (2005) and Kathryn (1998) Puelo.

In honor of her life and beliefs, there will be a Catholic mass at St. Brigid Church, 129 Main Street, Peapack, NJ, on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 11:00 am. Joyce will be laid to rest at West Point Cemetery (West Point, NY), dedicated to those who served in the United States Military Academy to honor her husband’s service.

Arrangements are by Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave., Basking Ridge, NJ.
