Alfonso J. Russo Obituary
Alfonso “Al” Joseph Russo, 95, of Bernardsville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Bernardsville, New Jersey, Al lived a long and meaningful life rooted in love for his family, dedication to his work, and an unwavering sense of responsibility. He proudly served in the United States Army, where he learned the electrical trade that would shape his life’s work.
After returning home, Al built a career with his own hands — literally. He became a respected electrical contractor and founded his own business, Al J. Russo Incorporated, earning a reputation for honesty, skill, and craftsmanship. He even built the family home himself, a lasting symbol of the care and dedication he brought into everything he did.
Al shared 71 years of marriage with the love of his life, Leona “Lee” Russo, a partnership marked by loyalty, humor, and quiet strength. Together they built a strong and loving family and raised three children, who were the pride of his life: William Russo and his wife, Leslie; Cynthia Lynch and her husband, Keith; and Barbara Valentino and her husband, Paul.
He was the cherished grandfather of Ashley Lynch and her fiancée, Blake Roux; Ryan Lynch and his wife, Victoria; Christopher Lynch; Samantha Valentino; and Damon Valentino. He was also the beloved great‑grandfather of Madalyn and Maverick Roux. Family was at the center of Al’s life, and he never missed a chance to show his love through action — a helping hand, a steady presence, or a job done right. Al and Lee hosted countless family barbecues and were happiest when the family was together.
Al will be remembered for his work ethic, his quiet generosity, and the way he showed love not through words, but through the countless things he built, fixed, and gave. More than anything, he will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great‑grandfather. His legacy lives on in the home he built, the family he raised, and the many lives he touched.
We are all better because of him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 111 Claremont Road, Bernardsville, NJ 07924 on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 11:30 AM. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
