Joann Outcault Munn passed away in Pompton Plains on March 30, 2026;she was 97.   A New Jersey native, Joann graduated from Summit High School in 1946 and Wellesley College in 1950.  She was married for over 71 years to John Pier MunnIII, who predeceased her in 2022; both lived in Basking Ridge (NJ) for the majority of their married life.  Joann was a lover of music and flowers, bridge and puzzles, baseball and football, pools and beaches.  She was committed to women’s causes and other social issues.  She remained politically aware throughout her life, expressing strong opinions (when asked) about what is happening in our country and the world.  She would have liked to have seen a woman elected President of the U.S. within her lifetime.   Joann worked for Prudential Insurance Company as a Systems Analyst for 23 years and loved the problem-solving challenges inherent in her work.  She is remembered by her family for her generosity, keen intellect, optimistic outlook, steadfast nature, beautifully hand-crafted afghans, and love of the slow life on Sanibel Island (FL).  She gifted her children with the space to make their own decisions and then supported those choices.  She was a big believer in the value of a liberal arts education and sponsored the college education of all of her children and grandchildren.  Joann is survived by her 3 children: Dave (Cele Munn), Barb(Ron Wirgart), and Bill (Elizabeth Chapman), her 8 grandchildren: Mike (Luda Begley), Emily (Bobby Marchenese), Nick (Kayla Munn), Eric (Kerry Dunn), DevinWirgart, Alexandra (Nick Barone), Corbin (Julia Velez), and Jackson (Philip Leider), and her 5 great-grandchildren: Harper, Violet, Ella, Lily, and Reid.
